MSc in MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE

ADMISSION PROCESS

Student selection is conducted in accordance with current legislation, the Regulations for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and the provisions of the Program's Regulations.

Every July, by decision of the General Assembly of the School of Medicine, a call for applications for admission to the Master's Program is issued and published on the websites of the School of Medicine and NKUA. Applications, along with all required supporting documentation, must be submitted to the Program Secretariat within the deadline specified in the call, which may be extended by decision of the General Assembly of the School of Medicine.

The General Assembly of the School of Medicine assigns the candidate selection process to the Program Steering Committee (SC).

  3. Two-sided copy of National ID card (or valid Passport for international applicants)
  4. Copy of Bachelor’s degree / Medical diploma or official certificate of degree completion
  5. Official undergraduate academic transcript
  6. English language proficiency certificate. If proficiency is not certified by a B2 level certificate or higher, it will be evaluated through internal examinations administered by the Steering Committee.
  7. Letters of recommendation

  9. Evidence of professional or research experience (if applicable)
  10. Certificate of Greek language proficiency or verified sufficient command of the Greek language, as assessed by the Admissions Committee (for international applicants)

For applicants holding degrees from foreign higher education institutions who do not submit a certificate of recognition from DOATAP (Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center), the following procedure applies:

The General Assembly of the School of Medicine appoints a competent committee to determine whether a foreign institution or degree title is recognized. For a degree to be recognized:

  • The awarding institution must be included in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions maintained and updated by DOATAP.
  • The applicant must submit a certificate of place of study issued and sent directly by the foreign university. If Greek territory is certified as the place of study or any part thereof, the degree shall not be recognized, unless that portion of study was completed at a Greek public university.

Evaluation Criteria and Weighting

Applicant evaluation and selection are based on the following criteria:

  • Overall undergraduate degree grade (Grade Point Average / GPA) (10%)
  • Undergraduate academic transcript, with emphasis on courses relevant to the Program's subject area (10%)
  • Relevance of the applicant's research or professional experience to Maternal-Fetal Medicine (20%)
  • Statement of Purpose (10%)
  • Attendance at medical conferences and seminars, including participation with oral presentations or posters (10%)
  • Letters of recommendation (5%)
  • Oral interview assessing, among other factors, the candidate’s ability and motivation to meet program requirements (Motivation – Personality – Profile) (15%)
  • Certified English language proficiency (5%)
  • Proficiency in additional foreign languages (5%)
  • Scientific publications and conference presentations (5%)
  • Possession of an additional postgraduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) (5%)

Based on these combined criteria, the Steering Committee compiles the final ranking list and submits it to the General Assembly of the School of Medicine for approval.

Admitted candidates must enroll with the Program Secretariat within thirty (30) days of the General Assembly’s decision.

In the event of a tie (calculated with mathematical rounding to the nearest integer on a 100-point scale), tied candidates are admitted, up to an additional ten percent (10%) of the maximum number of admitted students.

If one or more admitted candidates fail to enroll, offers of admission will be extended to waitlisted candidates (runners-up), in accordance with their ranking on the approved evaluation list.
